Yoga does a body good, but students with back issues must practice in a different way and modify postures to ensure their safety on the mat. This is a special class, created in partnership with a variety of spine specialists, designed to teach students how to practice yoga in a way that protects the spine. Whether you are a brand new student or an experienced practitioner, it is important to learn how to incorporate healthy spine practices into all movements, on and off the mat. Doing so will contribute to increased safety on the yoga mat and increased health and vitality. Not to mention less aches and pains!
This class is open to students with back injuries of any kind, students wishing to learn back care principles to prevent injuries, and yoga teachers wanting to learn postures and modifications to help their students with back issues. This class will feature a 45-minute discussion, 120-minute posture practice, and 15-minute reclined meditation. Question/answer opportunities will be woven throughout the class. Don't let the 120-minutes posture practice concern you! Students will have ample time to rest and take care of themselves. The extended practice is designed to allow students to watch demonstrations, learn concepts, practice, take notes, and absorb lessons without having to rush.
I have experience teaching yoga to students with back injuries and conditions. I understand as well, as I was born with a spine condition and used yoga to heal from a more recent back injury. I can relate to student experiences, am dedicated to helping people walk the path of yoga without pain, and am available to students for ongoing help and support.
