About
I came to yoga soon after moving to Seattle in 2004. I teach because I believe we all have the power to heal and live lives of joy, and that yoga can help. My intention in teaching is to provide an avenue for each student to discover, honor, and listen to the teacher within. If there is one thing I aim to get across, it is that you never need to be any more or less to practice yoga.
I am passionate about introducing yoga to beginners; the sparks in their eyes as the path of yoga becomes clear is a joy in my life. I also have a special interest in working with people who are injured or who need different options for practicing safely. All of my classes emphasize back care, and so my classes are a wonderful space for people with back injuries. This special interest stems from my own life experience, as I was born with a back condition and am using yoga to heal from a more recent back injury. For this reason, I am dedicated to helping create a world of smiling spines.
My current journey involves more deeply exploring the many layers of yoga, beyond postures and physical form, and I am always thrilled to be part of a person's deeper journey into yoga. In all classes, I emphasizes the integrity of each pose and letting go of preconceived notions of what the body can or cannot do. I foster a supportive, non-competitive, and fun environment where students are respected and given permission to be themselves.
I completed my 200-hour teacher training at the Hatha Yoga Center in Seattle. I look forward to studying yoga and Ayurvedic medicine in India in October 2010. I am deeply inspired by Donna Farhi and, after decades of this not being the case, the teacher I am falling in love with most is my inner one.
